Minjote Mekonen was born and raised in the DC metro area by immigrant parents from Ethiopia. After high school, she moved on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and later earned her master’s in school counseling from Capella University. Seven years ago she began working with underrepresented youth populations in functions such as a school counselor, mentor, and even an athletic coach. Most recently she worked with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) aiding youth 18-24 to remove barriers to both education and employment. She is continuing her education to earn an EdD in Educational Leadership & Management so she can expand her skill set and continue influencing positive student outcomes. She is excited to join the ACES team and looks forward to working with diverse populations in the Montgomery County community.
